George King Architects travelled to the city of Varna last week to attend an event announcing the winners of the EFFIX Pavilion International Design Contest. GKA’s Shell Pavilion received first place honours ahead of Ice Crystal Curtain by Yusuke Kinoshita and Daisuke Sekine from France, and Cultural Constellation Project by Desislava Parlapanska from Bulgaria
The competition was organised by Devnya Cement and the Varna Design Forum. GKA will now travel to Devnya Cement’s i.lab Research Centre in Italy to develop the design, prior to its installation in Varna’s Sea Garden in 2017.
George King Architects are delighted to announce that their Shell Pavilion has won the EFFIX Pavilion International Contest. The competition called for the design of a small trading pavilion to be situated in the Seaside Park in the city of Varna, Bulgaria.
GKA’s entry takes the form of a pristine white shell, washed up on the shores of Varna. It consists of modular components that can be arranged in different ways to give the pavilion flexibility of use. It is formed entirely from the innovative i.design EFFIX material.
The competition was organised by Devnya Cement AD, the makers of EFFIX, and the Varna Design Forum and received 95 entries from 34 countries.
