GKA makes COMEL Award 2017 shortlist

George King Architects have been named as a finalist in the year’s COMEL Award. The award, which celebrates the use of aluminium in contemporary art, received hundreds of entries from artists around the world.
GKA is one of 13 finalists whose work will be included in an exhibition in Latina, Italy in October.

GKA on shortlist for Sousse and Bardo Memorial Design Competition

George King Architects have been included on the shortlist for the 2015 Sousse and Bardo Memorial design competition. The memorial will be located within Cannon Hill Park in Birmingham and will commemorate the British victims of these two terrible attacks.The design competition has been organised by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, with the chosen design to be announced later in the year.

GKA take ‘highly commended’ honour in stadium contest

George King Architects are pleased to reveal their stage 2 design in the Forest Green Rovers FC stadium contest. GKA’s design takes inspiration from the surrounding countryside with an inhabitable green roof that forms a landscaped park. A series of sloped terraces rise gently in an arrangement of bands to create a recreational space for the community to enjoy.
GKA’s design received a ‘highly commended’ nod from the competition jury. Designs from Zaha Hadid Architects and Glen Howells have progressed to the final, with a winner chosen this coming September.

GKA make stadium design contest shortlist

George King Architects are delighted to be one of nine firms shortlisted in the Forest Green Rovers stadium design competition. The competition called for an “iconic building designed to the highest sustainability standards.”
GKA’s design takes the form of an inhabitable hill, with the stadium carved into the middle. The hill itself will be a landscaped park featuring a series of sloped terraces which rise gently in an arrangement of bands to create a space that can be used by the community for recreational activities such as walking, jogging or cycling.
The competition will now be narrowed down to two finalists, with a winner chosen in September.

GKA progress to ‘Huts’ shortlist

George King Architects have progressed to the next phase of the ‘The Huts’ competition. We can now reveal our design, entitled, ‘The Stargazer’s Cabin,’ which will take the form of a glowing lantern, with a laser-cut facade depicting constellation maps.
The final stage of the competition will include an exhibition of scale models of the shortlisted designs and public vote from March 9th – 14th. Winners will be announced at a gala event on March 16th. Click here for more information about The Stargazer’s Cabin.
